Rotec Mk2 TBI-40-3 Throttle Body Injector
The Rotec Mk2 TBI-40-3 is a compact, fully metered mechanical throttle body fuel injection system ideally suited to smaller aircraft engines, including the smaller Continental and Lycoming engine families, as well as many other experimental and light aircraft applications.
The 40 mm bore provides an excellent match for lower displacement aero engines where good throttle response, smooth running and accurate fuel metering are required without the complexity of a conventional fuel injection system.
Unlike a conventional carburettor, the Rotec TBI has no float bowl and no restrictive carburettor venturi. Fuel is positively metered in direct relationship to airflow and throttle position, providing smooth and consistent fuel delivery throughout the operating range.
The pilot also has full mixture control, allowing the engine to be leaned in cruise and, where the engine and instrumentation permit, operated lean of peak for excellent fuel economy.
Ideally Suited To
• Smaller Continental aircraft engines
• Smaller Lycoming aircraft engines
• Rotax 912 conversions using a single TBI
• Jabiru and other experimental aircraft engines
• Vintage and traditional aero engine installations
• Custom and experimental aircraft applications
Key Features
• Fully metered mechanical fuel injection
• 40 mm throttle bore
• Rotec #3 mounting configuration
• Full pilot operated mixture control
• Excellent throttle response and smooth operation
• Lean of peak capability where appropriate
• No float bowl
• No conventional carburettor jets
• No accelerator pump required
• Very low fuel pressure requirement
• Suitable for gravity feed or low pressure fuel pump systems
• Compact and lightweight
• Excellent resistance to fuel slosh, vibration and unusual aircraft attitudes
• Simple, robust mechanical construction
The Mk2 TBI combines the simplicity and reliability of a carburettor with many of the operational advantages of fuel injection.
Importantly, the Rotec TBI should not be confused with earlier Posa style throttle body devices. The Rotec TBI is a fully metered fuel system. Fuel delivery is precisely controlled according to engine demand, and with no engine demand there is no corresponding fuel delivery through the metering system.
For owners of smaller Continental, Lycoming and similar aircraft engines looking for a simple, lightweight and highly effective alternative to a conventional carburettor, the Rotec Mk2 TBI-40-3 is an excellent choice.

TBI-40-3 On my Inverted 4 (105hp)
21 July 2021Hello Rotec team, Thanks for all the help and the discount on the second unit, I’m so please with the first one. I’ve attached few pictures of the biplane, that I fitted your original TBI. The aircraft is my own design, scratch build over 5 years. The engine is a Walter Minor 4-III 105hp. Your TBI it’s perfect for it and the engine it’s running so much smoother since I’ve replaced the carburetor for your TBI. Cheers. Eddy

Airshow Pilot T-Craft C-85
11 February 2015I perform airshows across the Midwest in my C-85 powered “T-Clips” with inverted fuel by Rotec TBI. As an airshow pilot I trust my life to my engine and I trust my engine to Rotec. I’ve used many fuel systems over the years, from complex mechanical multi point injection systems such as the Bendix to the basic Marvel Schebler carburetor, but in my experience, the TBI is “simply” the best option available, at any price, from any manufacturer.
